MediRide EMS Provides Pediatric Training Seminar
(Marquette, MI) - Overnight guests at Marquette's Ramada
Inn were curious as to why there were so many
ambulances in the hotel's parking lot recently. Ramada
Inn Front Desk officials had to explain that MediRide EMS,
a local Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service
was hosting a training seminar in the building.
As part of its dedication to Community Excellence,
personnel and for crew members of other Marquette
County Fire & EMS agencies in Pediatric Special

President Dave Guizzetti. "All emergency responders hate to get a call for a child. Even though we're well
equipped to deal with it, when kids are having problems the sense of urgency seems so much greater and we
always want to make sure we're fully knowledgeable on the very latest in pediatric treatment procedures," he
said.
After a very informative lecture and slide show by John Mullen, EMT-P, I/C, and Lyn Nelson, BS, EMT-S, I/C,
Marquette County EMS Medical Control Authority Coordinator, practitioners transitioned into a variety of practical
stations featuring both training manikins and live children ranging in ages from 6 months to 12 years old.
"Those kids were great," said Michelle DeLisle, MediRide EMS V.P. "It's so helpful to learn and practice with the
feedback from real people."
Practical stations included pediatric airway management including pediatric intubation, pediatric assessment,
pediatric vital signs and an IV station complete with an actual placenta! According to Mullen, "The placenta is
used for pediatric IV training because the blood vessels of the placenta actually are very similar to some vessels
in small children and infants,"
MediRide EMS will be hosting its next training workshop on February 20th at 1800 at the Ramada Inn of
Marquette. "Our next training will feature both lecture and practical credits and we'll be focusing in on the special
considerations of Geriatric Patients," said Guizzetti.
In addition to MediRide EMS staff, all EMS practitioners in Marquette and Alger Counties are invited to attend the
seminar free of charge. If you would like to attend, you're asked to RSVP by February 18th by calling MediRide
EMS Corporate Office in Marquette at (906) 226-4565.
